1. DESCRIPTION & SIGNIFICANCE

An ultra-rare early Universal Genève Polerouter, reference S20214-4, dating to circa 1955. Designed by Gérald Genta at the dawn of his career, it is a landmark of mid-century horology and aviation history, originally engineered to withstand intense magnetic fields during Scandinavian Airlines System polar flights.

While the majority of Polerouters on the market carry the later micro-rotor movements, this early transitional reference houses the highly collectible Caliber 138SS bumper automatic, blending Genta's design formula with genuine mid-century mechanical soul.

The case architecture was built by Huguenin Frères, the same casemaker later associated with the Speedmaster Professional, and the family resemblance is there once you handle it. Finding a gold-capped example in strong condition with an early bumper automatic and a non-refinished black crosshair dial is an exceptional rarity on the secondary market today.
